When the trailer for Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women was released at the end of the summer, everyone was in the agreement that everything about it looked amazing.
The cast was stacked (Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep star), the tone was uplifting, and the snippets of Gerwig’s quick-witted dialogue already had us giggling.
However, the official posters for the film have been released, Twitter is like, “Whoa, pump the breaks.”
All the most actors got a poster, including Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern, and Meryl Streep. I mean, that solid is stacked, thus I’d build everybody their own separate poster too.
Anyway back to the task at hand, which is relaying what the internet had to say about these.
Some people were mad about the actual design of the poster, while others are objecting to the fact that there’s a dude front and center when it’s a movie about, uh, the titular little women.
On Tuesday, October 29th, two Little Women film posters were released to the public and met with a resounding, “Um, what?” Critics believe the main theatrical poster is way too rom-com and barely does Louisa May Alcott’s girl-coming-into-her-own story any justice.
The horizontal photo bars introducing the cast is incredibly overdone, as Twitter argues, reminiscent of every single romantic comedy film poster we’ve ever seen.
And we love Timmy and all. But why is he second down from the top when the film is truly about the “little women” in the March family?
Although many dislike the posters for Little Women, having seen the trailer first, we still have so much faith that this is going to be the best movie we see this winter. Little Women hits theatres on Christmas Day, December 25th.
