“ Tonight we celebrate the enduring memory of an artist and a leader who made brave, brilliant strides to unite this community here in Los Angles and around the world,” DuVernay said.

Hussle had become a community activist in native South LA, his acclaimed music with the Interscope album Victory Lap, during his death, had transferred his focus to preventing gang violence.

“An activist, entrepreneur, and rapper, Nipsey Hussle had a lasting impact on not just on his community, also the culture at large,” Ken Ehrich Grammy award executive producer previously said of the late star.

The bid went to Netflix who reportedly paid less than  $20 million for the project, while Apple had been poised for being the lead position for the Hussle doc a per the reports and also other streamers such as Amazon.

You will be happy to know that the rapper’s family is also going to participate in the upcoming documentary, will be produced by DuVernay and Hussle’s Marathon films.

The film will be in capable hands apart from the budget. DuVernay’s earlier documentary includes the Oscar-nominated 13th, showing racial inequality in America through the lens of the country’s Prison System.

THR reports that turning 2017, DuVernay had Hussle serve as a panelist to “ offer his perspective on how the for-profit prison system was decimating inner-city communities.”
