UPDATE: Google Maps Now will show larger icons for city landmarks

Google Maps has received a new icon for large cities landmarks Both Android and iOS users can get the latest feature by updating the app on their device.

Google Maps has received a new update that brings large city landmark icons to both Android and iOS users. These new icons would help you in quickly exploring major landmarks in big cities.

On updating Maps to the latest 10.28.2.version on your Android smartphone and to 5.29.8 on your iOS device, you will be able to see new large city landmark icons.

It displays tons of information at all times, depending on how you customize the layout, so getting lost on the map while you are visually looking for a landmark is easy.

According to a report, the newly launched icons in Maps would mostly indicate historically-significant areas. Places like Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abby in London were reported to be shown with these icons in the app.

However, the report suggests that the White House was not marked with the large icon.
So, there is a possibility that Google is still adding new landmarks in the Maps but it is not known on which criteria is it deciding landmarks for major cities. The focus seems to be on places that are ancient and have some historical background.

The icons look visually distinguishable from others on the map, making them more visible and easy to find. They would help you in searching for places and attractions that you might want to visit in a city you are in.

Both Android and iOS users can get the latest feature by updating their app to the latest Android 10.28.2 version and iOS 5.29.8 version.

Google had recently added the Incognito Mode in the Maps. While announcing the feature, their ad said: When you turn on Incognito mode in Maps, your Google Maps activity on that device, like the places you search for, won’t be saved to your Google Account and also it won’t be used to personalize your Maps experience.
