Kevin Smith: “He made the biggest superhero movie ever!” says to defend Marvel Movies from Martin criticism

Kevin Smith has defended superhero movies after they came in for harsh criticism from director Martin Scorsese.

Martin Scorsese, the famous director of Raging Bull, Goodfellas has  become the scourge of comic book movie fans after saying that Marvel movies are “not cinema.” But it’s clear that fanboys aren’t scaring the man who, thirty years ago, stood up to the entirety of the Catholic Church after making The Last Temptation of Christ.

Scorsese said, It’s not cinema, it’s something else,  Says, we shouldn’t be invaded by it. Previously he had compared the films of Marvel and DC to “theme parks.” He doubled down on that as well: “Theaters have become amusement parks. he also added, That is all fine and good but don’t invade everything else in that sense.

“For my cash, I think Martin Scorsese made the biggest superhero movie ever, which was The Last Temptation of Christ,” Smith told The Hollywood Reporter.

Smith is currently on the promotions for his new movie Jay And Silent Bob Reboot. Scorsese is set to release The Irishman in the UK next month, first in selected cinemas and later on Netflix.

Turns out Scorsese is not the only person who has to say about Marvel movies. Scorsese also doubled down to affirm his belief in the sanctity of the movie-going experience.

In 2017, Netflix has acquired the ambitious “Irishman” after both STX and Paramount Pictures dropped out.

For Smith, “Martin Scorsese made the biggest superhero movie ever, which was The Last Temptation of Christ. He beats Superman and [Robert] Downey [Jr.] every time, so maybe Martin is bending on that territory.”

Smith is just one of the most recent creatives to share his own thoughts and feelings about the director’s Marvel commentary. Earlier on Tuesday, Watchmen creator Damon Lindelof had said that he’s just curious as to how many Marvel movies he has seen.

He doesn’t view it as a put-down. He also thinks there has to be space for popular entertainment and indie fare and cinema.
